Director General Health
DG Health The department of health is alarmed over the state of hundreds and thousands of children that either die or are disabled each year because of malnutrition. Although we know how to prevent and treat malnutrition; the missing links in the system and in the communities (regarding child feeding) are inhibiting the progress that we have made and could have made in tackling with the issue of malnutrition.
The services for acute malnutrition have begun to be integrated into the provincial health system in the shape of nutrition PC-1 and nutrition strategies. The geographical coverage along with the budgets allocated for the nutrition interventions are still too low to have the needed impact.
We have come a long way in recognizing nutrition as a major health problem/priority and not as a feature of humanitarian emergencies. This progress will be sustained at all costs and by all means ensuring a healthy and bright future of the children (& mothers) of the province.
