Balochistan Infant Feeding Board Meeting
1st provincial feeding board meeting was held under the chairmanship of MPA and board member of the provincial feeding board MS. YASMIN LEHRI and Secretary Health Government of Balochistan Mr. Saleh Mohammad Nasar, the main agenda of constituting of this board was the implementation of the Balochistan protection and promotion of breast- feeding and child nutrition bill, 2014.
The board chairman was designated to advisory committee health MPA Dr.Ruqia Hashmi who gave endorsement in massage by authorizing the board to decide what is best for the healthy practices incorporating the act into the province. and was to make a futuristic implementation plan to incorporate the bill with letter and spirit. in the meeting all relevant stakeholders take part i.e. business class who are dealing with the Formula Milk, Pediatrician’s, development partners etc.
In the meeting provincial coordinator for Balochistan mothers and children Dr. Ali Nasir Bugti has briefed the board about the roadmap of the implementation and urged to minimize the usage of formula milk in the province. And said that mother’s milk is the precious gift been granted by the god, mothers milk is best for baby, and the benefits of breastfeeding extend well beyond basic nutrition. in addition to containing all the vitamins and nutrients your baby needs in the first six months of life, breast milk is packed with disease-fighting substances that protect your baby from illness. Adding more he said “mother’s milk is best for your baby and helps in preventing diarrhea and other illnesses”;
Secretary health Mr. Saleh Mohammad Nasar has emphasized the board for the implementation and monitoring of the act and ordered for early composition of implementation and monitoring plan and said -government will give such directions as may appear to it to be necessary for carrying into effects in any of the provisions of this act or the rules, or any order or direction made there under, or for achievement of uniformity in respect of any matter related thereto in different parts of Balochistan.
in the meeting MPA MS. YASMIN LEHRI approved for the preparation of plan and strategy about the breast feeding act . she said that Numerous studies from around the world have shown that stomach viruses, lower respiratory illnesses, ear infections, and meningitis occur less often in breastfed babies and are less severe when they do happen. Exclusive breastfeeding (meaning no solid food, formula, or water) for at least six months seems to offer the most protection.
The event was arranged jointly by Provincial Nutrition Cell and the UNICEF.
