Consultative and sensitization seminar for parliamentarians and stakeholders
Deputy Speaker National Assembly Mr. Qasim Khan Suri said Under-nutrition is a recognized health problem in Balochistan in declaring Nutrition emergency in the province, as malnutrition plays a substantial role in the region’s elevated maternal and child morbidity and mortality rates. The devastating burden of under-nutrition has lifelong negative consequences, including stunted growth and impaired cognitive development. These can permanently disable a child’s potential to become a productive adult, and appreciated the role of Nutrition program Balochistan is this regard. He was expressing these views while addressing in the consultative and sensitization seminar for parliamentarians and stakeholders organized by BNPMC Health Department Government of Balochistan.
He said that In light to envisioned policy guidelines of Prime Minister Pakistan, Mr.Imran Khan in the inaugural speech highlighted the importance and impact of Malnutrition (Stunting) federal government is curious in taking immediate actions in this regard and in the coming days National Nutrition Program will be started very soon, moreover support will be extended to the provinces in dealing the menace of malnutrition among children and women.
Addressing in the seminar provincial Health Minister Mir Naseeb Ullah Marri has declared in establishing of a Provincial Nutrition Directorate in unifying all Nutrition emergency services under one umbrella. He said, in result of recent wave of drought in which the nutrition related interventions need to be extended as provincial cabinet endorsed scaling up of nutrition program to other districts in an immediate manner. In this regard role of federal government along with development partners is critically important technically and financially in supporting nutrition program interventions in reaching to the deprived masses.
Addressing the seminar secretary health Hafiz Abdul Majid said to create a supportive environment for the implementation of comprehensive food and nutrition policies is crucial. Health department will extend its support in establishing a nutrition directorate to stimulate development policies and programmes of nutrition. Moreover it is mandatory to work under the multi sectoral approach i.e, water, agriculture, environment, food, education etc. issues to be addressed in a proactive manner in attaining optimistic results.
Addressing to the participants National Health services regulations and coordination National Program Manager/ Director Nutrition Dr. Baseer Khan Achakzai said that after 18th amendment role provincial government have to work on conducive and conclusive policies in health moreover support with be provided in policy level by the federal government along with the development partners and stakeholders, in more national guidelines of nutrition has been established now the provinces have to act in a proactive manner. He also appreciated government of Balochistan in taking nutrition as a health problem.
